The Oakland Raiders have concluded their 3-13 season
and are actively pursing a head coach that will hopefully bring the much needed
spark back to Oakland. Some notable head coaches that are set to be interviewed
are Eagles offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur, 49ers assistant coach Eric
Mangini and the Raiders current interim head coach Tony Sparano,
Shurmur has spent the last two years as a coordinator
for the Philadelphia Eagles, but has had limited play call experience, due to
head coach Chip Kelly taking on the play call responsibility. If hired this
will be Shurmur’s first time as an NFL head coach. The Raiders have already
requested permission from the Eagles to interview Shurmur.
Mangini has head coach experience with the New York
Jets from 2006-2008. Currently, Mangini is the 49ers tight end coach. The
Raiders have already requested permission from the 49ers to interview Mangini.
Sparano was 3-9 after taking over the Raiders in the
2014 season when Dennis Allen was fired for a 0-4 start. Sparano has earned the
support from many of the players and is indicating he wants to fight to have
the interim title removed from his coaching title and be the head coach of the
Raiders.
Hopefully the Raiders will logically pursue the best candidate
that can bring some luster back to the Silver and Black.
